Review of the Learn to Ski/ Ride program

“Beginner” is too broad a term to use for LTS/R because people interpret it to mean anything from first-time to average.  First-timers, as defined below, are what we teach in LTS/R.

  • Definition of "First Timer": One who has never placed their feet in ski or snowboard boots, stepped on skis or a board and slid across the snow. If someone has tried it once in the past, without success due to fear, injury, or other circumstances, and fully understands what the class will entail, we will accommodate them.
  • For pre-registered customers, sellers should ascertain that they reserved the right product before issuing tickets.
  • Before you process the payment and complete the sale, verify that this is the correct product for the guest.

Not Qualified for LTS/LTR

  • Anyone who has ever ridden a lift of any description, and got down on his or her own.
  • Anyone who has ever been able to turn or stop on skis or a board.
  • Anyone who skied or rode “x” years ago.
  • These individuals are disruptive in a first-timer class and are virtually always able to fit into a White or higher group at a regular lineup

Tips

  • Clearly explain where they go for the lesson, that they must complete the rental form before entering the Discovery Center, and what time they need to arrive.
  • Ask if they have the proper attire or need anything—maybe hand/toe warmers on a cold day? Direct them to the retail shop if they are missing something.
  • Share your personal experiences about “learning to ski/ride” or your favorite place on the mountain once they have progressed to the next level. If you enjoy skiing/riding and share that with the guest, they will feel your enthusiasm.
  • Tell them about the offerings in our learning area—the Magic Carpets, the Terrain-Based Learning Area, and ALA Trail. Let them know about the terrain parks at Ramshead.
  • Invite them back after the lesson to tell you about their experience. Offer a “Bev Card” to celebrate their success! Most definitely give a sticker and a “High Five!”
  • Invite them to join the “Meet the Mountain Tour” on Day 3. Offered at 10 am & 11 am in the SS courtyard. Great way to learn about the rest of the mountain.
  • Most importantly, remind them to have FUN. That is what skiing and riding at Killington are all about!!!

Reminders

  • The lift ticket for an LTS/R lesson is a limited learning area ticket and is only valid for Snowshed carpet and lifts and Ramshead lift for all days.
  • Never send LTS/LTR directly to rentals (except to get parkas and pants.
